Windows Defender

Windows Defender, the default security suite which comes pre-installed with Windows 8 is strong enough to give you protection from all major PC and web related security threats, claims Microsoft.
You don’t have to buy a separate Antivirus subscription to protect your Windows 8 PC. Windows Defender provides protection against virus, malware, Trojans, and other prevailing threats which can harm your security and data.
The security definition updates will be delivered directly through Windows Update automatically and you don’t have to bother about keeping an eye on your security program. It gives all round real time protection and takes necessary actions according to the security threat level.
In an analysis performed by Bit Defender, only 15 percent of what the security firm classifies as the malware families most favored cyber-criminals this year were able to successfully run on Windows 8 with Windows Defender on. That translated into 61 of the 385 malware samples the company tested.
“This is a great improvement over the out-of-the-box security of Windows 7, for instance, where 262 of the 385 samples ran without any problems,” said Alexandru Catalin Cosoi, chief security strategist at BitDefender. “The preinstalled Windows Defender that now ships with Windows 8 makes a difference when it comes to narrowing the impact of malware.”
Microsoft has pushed few patches today to fix some security threats in Windows RT and Windows 8. The security firms are claiming that Windows 8 is not fully secured and needs to be protected using our advance security programs. All major security software developing companies has already released Windows 8 compatible version of their security suites.
AVG has also released 2013 version of their Antivirus and Internet security suites recently. Other companies like Kaspersky, Bit Defender, Eset, Panda, Quickheal, and TrendMicro has already released their Antivirus programs for Windows 8.
