The need

Lelystad Airport, located 60 km northeast from Amsterdam, handling 160,000 private flight movements a year, expanded to become a commercial airport. To achieve this, Lelystad Airport needed to deliver new services, including ensuring customer and goods safety. A surveillance service was clearly needed before starting commercial flight activities. Lelystad Airport approached Sony Business Europe to explore the surveillance solutions possible to monitor all the remote buildings within the airport environment as well as the main passenger terminal.

Delivered benefits

Reduced security costs have been achieved as less security staff are required to patrol the airport. With image distribution on event, the relevant operators now automatically view the camera where an alarm has been triggered (activity detection or access control trigger). This means that security personnel can be more efficiently deployed.

As the solution operates on the existing IT infrastructure, reduced cost of network ownership has also been achieved, with both the administrative and security personnel using the same infrastructure. These benefits are speeding up business aviation handling for Lelystad Airport, relieve the pressure on Schiphol Airport and help to develop the area of Flevoland. The airport is planning to manage 35,000 business flights per year within 12 years, handling 500,000 - 800,000 passengers per year.
