Surveillance camera systems are becoming increasingly important to have in our home or business as theft is continually increasing everywhere. Nowadays there are so many different options in the market from out-door camera systems for the home or office, nanny cams that come a in a variety of forms resembling such things as fake plants, wall clocks, and even teddy bears to name a few. Also CCTV systems that capture and record images, to tiny spy cameras that can be placed just about anywhere. Whether we are in need of home security system or business surveillance, there are many things to consider before buying a system that most suits our needs. It is important to understand the different types of surveillance camera systems that exist in order to better understand what we will need. We will be able to purchase the right type of security camera system once we completely understand what should be considered in regards to our home security.

To develop a surveillance plan, we will need to know what the criteria to target are before implementing our system. It is important to our research thoroughly in regards to the type of equipment we will need, such as spy cameras, wireless video system or CCTV cameras.

Things to consider when buying a surveillance camera:
  • Recording- Some homeowners only use a live feed with their cameras, but if we will need to do any recording we should make sure that our camera system is compatible with whatever recording system we choose.

  • Weatherproofing- If our camera will be placed outside then we should make sure that it has a good weatherproof casing. Also, we should make sure that our camera is well installed. This will keep vandals and thieves from attempting to remove or deface our camera.

  • Remote Access- Depending on our home security needs, we may want to have remote access to our surveillance camera. If we have remote access we will be able to monitor our camera from just about any computer in the world.

  • Security Monitoring- If we are interested, we can have a security firm monitor the happenings on our surveillance camera, as well. To do this we just need to make sure that our camera system is compatible with their monitoring systems.

  • Area Capturing- We need to figure out how much of a room or outdoor area we want to be able to capture in our camera. If we want to capture a lot of area then we will need a wide angle lens.
