Things to consider when buying a surveillance camera:
- Recording- Some homeowners only use a live feed with their cameras, but if we will need to do any recording we should make sure that our camera system is compatible with whatever recording system we choose.
- Weatherproofing- If our camera will be placed outside then we should make sure that it has a good weatherproof casing. Also, we should make sure that our camera is well installed. This will keep vandals and thieves from attempting to remove or deface our camera.
- Remote Access- Depending on our home security needs, we may want to have remote access to our surveillance camera. If we have remote access we will be able to monitor our camera from just about any computer in the world.
- Security Monitoring- If we are interested, we can have a security firm monitor the happenings on our surveillance camera, as well. To do this we just need to make sure that our camera system is compatible with their monitoring systems.
- Area Capturing- We need to figure out how much of a room or outdoor area we want to be able to capture in our camera. If we want to capture a lot of area then we will need a wide angle lens.
