Times of India Reports
Hyderabad
to have 1 lakh CCTVs
TNN | Jul 25, 2014, 04.34AM IST
HYDERABAD:
Around one lakh CCTV cameras would be installed in Greater Hyderabad in the
next few months before the World Metropolis Congress meet in October this year,
said Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar.
GHMC will insist on installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras for buildings where 100 or more people are likely to gather, while issuing building permissions or trade licenses, he said.
A workshop on ?Public Safety Act' was organized jointly by the GHMC and police department with other government departments to create awareness about the Act on Thursday.

A workshop on ?Public Safety Act' was organized jointly by the GHMC and police department with other government departments to create awareness about the Act on Thursday.
Speaking at the workshop, the commissioner said the Public
Safety Act would become successful only when it was collectively done.
"Public safety is not the sole responsibility of the police department. The Act was brought not only to curb crime, but also to ensure safety to all citizens of the city," the commissioner said. The commissioner said CCTV cameras have also become cheap in the past few years and citizens could afford them now.
He said it has been also observed that crime rate has come down in the city after the Hyderabad police installed cameras at certain places as they have been acting as deterrent to the violators.
"Both the GHMC and police department are planning to involve residential welfare associations and non-governmental organizations for effective implementation of the Act. Educational institutions and various stakeholders will be involved to create awareness among the people," he said. Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy said that no other state in the country has this type of Act.
"A CCTV camera can take the place of 12 constables. Over a lakh cameras will be installed at all public places like temples, mosques, educational institutions, bus stops and railway stations, and wherever public movement is more," Mahender Reddy said.
Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand said cities like Moscow, Tokyo and London were dependent on CCTV cameras for surveillance to trap culprits in a much easier way. He said the best practices would be adopted in the city for making it a global city.

Notes: News published in Times of
India: it is one of the greatest movements, but most of this type of initiation
went wrong finally. The efforts will come down day by day to officials, who
suppose to coordinate the project.
