4MP Significant Gains
Most integrators that said 4MP was their most common camera resolution said that it was due to price/performance ratio, similar to integrators choosing 1080p. Our tests have confirmed that 4MP performance has significantly gained on 1080p, with super low light and true WDR 4MP models now common. However, this performance is not universal, and more on a manufacturer/model basis instead of a categorical difference.
- "4Mp, seem to be the best bang for the buck. Also, going higher than this doesn't seem to pay off because the quality of the lenses in a lot of these cameras don't focus clearly enough to make the high Mp worth it, especially on the fixed lens cameras with no adjustment. I have actually had 4Mp cameras with a sharper picture than an 8Mp due to a fixed lens not factory focused good enough or poor quality lens that may be sharp in one spot but somewhat out of focus in other parts of the FOV."
- "4MP, it is a significant upgrade over older 2MP equipment and prices seem to have come in line with what customers are used to paying. It has fit well as a standard moving forward to take the place of 2MP."
- "4MP 16:9. Its the sweet spot in resolution to cost ratio. Standardizing also allows us to reduce cost and complexity.
- "4mp for most of the year. Foresee moving up to 5 and 8 this year. We did this because that was the sweet spot where we could get very good picture quality for a price that was very reasonable.
- "4Mp 2688x1520 Good resolution, cost effective, good balance between enough detail and storage and bandwidth capacity."
- "4MP. The price points and low-light performance of 4MP have improved."
- "4MP. It's pretty much industry standard today."
- "4MP - Most clients we deal with are looking for detection. Rarely are our clients seeking to have a system that records forensic level video."
- "We've been using 4MP, it's a good middle ground between 4K and 2MP. Also it has a great price point with the Hanwha cameras we've been using."
- "Mostly 4MP. Good sweet spot for price/performance/availability"
- "This hard one to answer. I would say 4mp because of the price point and 16:9 ratio."
- "4mp. Best price/performance point"
- "4MP good balance between clarity and value"
- "4mp because it's a balance of quality and price."
- "4MP - Generally budget friendly while providing higher resolution than our competitors that are installing 2MP."
- "4MP - better than 1080P and 4K is most often not needed for a lot of views."
- "4MP. Less of a bandwidth hog than 4K, better than 1080p"
- "4MP, best price/storage/quality ratio."
- "4MP Bang for the buck"
