What is AHD?

 

AHD is a newly developed solution for transmitting full HD digital video in a Surveillance System. HD CCTV is an analog High Definition CCTV Video Surveillance Standard that uses coaxial cable to transmit HD Video from security cameras to DVRs. AHD currently supports 720p HD resolution, however, manufacturers are now added on 1080p AHD cameras and recorders right now. The core concept of AHD is to deliver high definition video using digital TV (DTV) transmission. With AHD, high definition digital video can be transmitted easily over coaxial cables, twisted pairs, or simply over the air. Multiple 1080p 30 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS video streams can be easily transmitted using AHD over a single 5C2V/RG6 cable up to a length of 1000 meters without any repeater (Up to 500 meters in case of 3C2V/RG59).

  

In the world of analog TV, The composite video baseband signal (CVBS) is the most commonly used signal format. Its popularity, ease of use, and robustness have made it an integral part of our lives. CVBS is in fact a de facto signal standard for analog video surveillance systems. As we bid farewell to analog TV with worldwide analog switch-off (ASO) and move on to the age of digital TV, digital technologies, such as DVB-T, ISDB-T, and ATSC, became popular and indispensable much like CVBS in the analog age. AHD leverages the extremely robust AV transmission capability of DTV to easily and seamlessly upgrade an analog CCTV Surveillance System to Digital Full HD. It is expected AHD to become a de facto standard for digital video surveillance systems in the future. 

 

 

AHD CCTV cameras are connected to DVRs using the same type of coaxial cable as traditional analog CCTV cameras, typically RG6 or RG59 coaxial cable. One of the advantages of AHD over HD-SDI / HDTVI/ HDCVI cameras (another type of HD Video over coaxial security camera standards), is that RG59 coaxial cable can be run long distances without any big video loss. So far in our experience, installers can reliably use RG6 coaxial cable up to a max distance of 750 to 800 feet for AHD cameras.  AHD cameras can also be connected with UTP (CAT 6 or CAT 5) cable with video baluns to run cable up to 350 Meters / 990 feet

 Will AHD replace analog CCTV cameras?

Need to wait some more time to give proper answer.

CCTV and Video Surveillance technology is extremely stable and prices are now affordable.

Some people in the surveillance industry thought that analog CCTV’s growth rate have been phased out years ago. Around 2006 - 2007, Megapixel HD Resolution Network based IP cameras were gaining popularity. However, most found and experienced that IP based CCTV Cameras tend to be more difficult to setup and the pricing never came down to suit normal peoples budget enough for many to justify the higher resolution.

HD-SDI came to the CCTV surveillance industry about 2010 (it has been used to make movies and HDTV for years). HD-SDI cameras, the acceptance of them has been limited. Some say it is because you cannot run coaxial cable very long distances for HD-SDI and there is no support for video baluns (to use with UTP cable). The image quality of 1080p HD-SDI is outstanding though. The price for HD-SDI is not economic compare to AHD

AHD seems to address the main issues that held back the other HD security camera types from taking over the analog CCTV market. Installers can use the same coaxial cable as traditional analog CCTV cameras and they work at the same max distance. Video baluns for AHD cameras are available for those that prefer to use UTP cable such as CAT5. Pricing on AHD cameras is only slightly more than analog. More over the costliest thing in CCTV is cabling, and installer can use their existing Camera cabling to connect AHD Camera by replacing old analog one which is used. Thus the cost will be much cheaper when a client looking for HD Video Surveillance in place of his or her old analog system.

Last, there are high quality hybrid DVRs available that let users use both AHD and analog CCTV cameras. This will allow security system owners to use their existing CCTV cameras and upgrade over time to HD, while keeping their DVR in place.

How Does AHD Image Quality Compare to HD IP and HDCVI Cameras?

AHD Camera can be directly connected to the CRT display through coaxial cable, image display properly. HDCVI or HDTVI camera connects the monitor directly by coaxial cable, no image (black screen) will be displayed. HDCVI or HDTVI camera by connecting HDCVI DVR, HDCVI hard disk video recorder HDMI output to the LCD display, the image is normal. So it seems, AHD the camera has 960h output modes, very convenient for debugging. And 1mp AHD camera image effect and analog cameras effect is not obvious difference, so, AHD the camera output 960h signal can reflect the effect of 720p.

 

AHD DVR?

Presently AHD DVR is available in 3 models, they are

1.    AHD - H definition (TVL) is equal to all Network HD 1080p HD level

2.    AHD - M definition (TVL) is equivalent to the Network HD 720P level

3.    AHD - L definition (TVL) is slightly lower than the network HD 720P but, much higher than traditional 960H analog

 

How well does Analog HD perform over long or low - grade cables?

 

AHD is based on AHD protocol, using the analog of coaxial cable transmission line by line scan High-Definition Video.

 

AHD lineage SD Transmission way and the method of analog, can reduce the complexity of the construction deployment, reduce the complementary material cost and the complexity of maintenance, as well as the technical requirements of construction personnel. AHD Camera Models
